Scripture Reading: Pastor Mark will read the description of each of the Churches of Revelation

2 INTRODUCTION False prophets, apostles, and teachers have entered Christendom and the Church beginning at the end of the 1st century. I John 2:29 gives us a ‘yardstick’ to measure true righteous actions. Christ knows the righteous works of believers throughout church history. He also knows and evaluates the unrighteous works of both true believers and false (professing) believers.

4 Be Aware of True Righteous Works Throughout the History of the Church
Rev 2:19 Thyatira Works of love and faith and ministry (attending to the needs of others) and patience The last: ministry and patience, more that the first: love and faith Cf I Thess 1:3 Rev 3:4 Sardis Works of a few who believe and demonstrate righteousness

Rev 3:8 Philadelphia Works responding to God-given opportunities Works of keeping Christ’s word of what they should be and do Works of not denying the person of Christ (the God-man) and works (His cross-work and Lordship)

6 Be Aware of Unrighteous Works of True Believers and of False Professors
Rev 2:4-5 Ephesus Left their first (purpose, or object of) love Loving members of the Body of Christ They needed to repent and do the first works: loving the members of the Body. Rev 2:15 Pergamus Toleration of those holding the doctrine of the eucharist

Rev 2:20 Thyatira Permitting a false-prophetess to promote the eucharist Rev 3:15 Sardis A reputation of life, but (on the whole) are dead Profession, but little or no reality

8 Be Aware of Unrighteous Works of True Believers and of False-Professors
Rev 3:7 Philadelphia Works that are unfulfilled Evangelism and the stabilizing of believers Rev 3:14-20 Laodecia Total unbelief Those that are denying the deity of Christ

9 Conclusion Know the difference between: Don’t be dissuaded by:
false-profession and true-possession (knowing Christ as Savior) Don’t be dissuaded by: False apostles False prophets False teachers Become more consistent in being spiritual, and demonstrate the love of Christ to one another
