Room 111 News Friday October 16, 2015 Important dates:
Next week’s Shine Student is David Friday 10/23: Trunk-or-Treat and end of 1st Quarter Religion Unit 1 test- study guide on the back of newsletter Thursday 10/29: class Halloween party and costume parade—wear your costume to school! Friday 10/30: NO SCHOOL Important Information: There WILL BE a spelling test next week! List 3 words Exciting news! We welcomed a new student to first grade this week! We are so happy to have you Iain O. and family . He is in Room 113. Thank you so much to those of you that came to the first grade info session last evening! If you were not able to attend, I am including the info packet in today’s envelope. Our school is once again collecting pop tabs and boxtops! Please send in any that you have been collecting at home! The Fall competition ends 10/29. Halloween info: Children may wear their Halloween costumes to school on Thurday 10/29. We will have a costume parade in the gym around 8:15 in the morning. All parents are welcome to attend the parade. Our class Halloween party will be after lunch. Only pre-scheduled and approved volunteers may attend the class party. Please keep in mind that children will have to wear their Halloween costumes all day at school! They will have to be able to use the restroom on their own and make it through recess while wearing their costume. Plan accordingly! Parent-Teacher conferences are November 19th and 23rd. A letter from the office will be sent home next week detailing how to sign up online for conferences. Please be sure to sign up for a conference so we can meet to discuss your child’s progress in first grade! This week in first grade: Religion-we were tested on the Angel of God prayer and we talked about Jesus and his family Math- we are learning lots of new addition strategies Daily 5- we are up to 4 out of 5 Daily 5’s! Students will be responsible for keeping track of their own D5 choices to make sure they are practicing all skills equitably starting Monday. Phonics- we learned some new sight words and letter sounds as well as our first digraph “ck” Science- we have been observing the weather daily and keeping a weather log. We are also learning about the water cycle and participating in several hands-on experiments!
