1 Multimedia systems and equipment -- Multimedia home server
-- Interchangeable volume/file structure for broadcasting receivers K. Murakami

2 Background --- Example of DTV Transport Stream Packets:
multiple associated objects --- Video Audio Video Meta Data Video Text Data Interchangeable Removable Media (Common Volume/File Structure needed in different Systems.) New Volume/File Structure needed to allow easy access to specified object ! New Proposal based on UDF

3 UDF (Universal Disk Format)
ISO/IEC 13346 The volume and file structure for of write-once and rewritable media using non-sequential recording UDF (Universal Disk Format) subset OSTA(Optical Storage Tech. Assoc.) specified: - file name character set - interpretation of file attributes …. UDF V.2.0 Specified for DVD-RAM Secure UDF Incorporates secure partition

4 Secure UDF Disk Secure Partition :
- Accessed data is processed within the drive, never transferred to outside the drive. - Used for storing security parameters such as data encryption key. Normal Partition : - Used for storing user data such as scrambled (encrypted) multimedia data.

5 Directory and File Structure
Root File(s) Root for the Application RROG_SET.IFO TVPROxxx Files for Program 1 Files for Program 2

6 Files for a Program 1 Program TVPROxxx Directory File xxxxxxxx.PIF
Stream File xxxxxxxx.AVD Secure Stream File xxxxxxxx.AUI xxxxxxxx.CIF xxxxxxxx.IDX xxxxxxxx.TMN xxxxxxxx.DAT UDF_LICENSE 1 Program

7 Directory/File Definitions
PROG_SET.IFO : Recorded TV programs sequence information TVPROxxx : Directory to store TV programs xxxxxxxx.PIF : Main file storing a TV program information xxxxxxxx.AVD : Stream file storing AV data stream xxxxxxxx.DAT : Stream file storing data object related to the TV program UDF_LICENSE : Stream file storing License Stream Files Secure Stream File

8 Object/AV-Stream/Time-Axis
AV data Stream File (xxxxxxxx.AVD) Object 1 Object 1 Time - Each object has time information and pointers to AV data stream file. - AV data stream file is reproduced according to the above specified information.

9 Naming Rule - Naming for files and directories are based on the rule
defined by ISO/DIS for Digital Still Camera - Usable characters are: A-Z, 0-9 - Naming examples: Name of the directory storing TV programs: “TVPROxxx” - Directory name consists of 8 characters - First 5 characters are “TVPRO” - Last 3 characters are “100”-”999” (“000”-”099” are not used) - The last 3 characters define “directory number”

10 Summary 1. A scheme to store DTV transport stream data
on a removable media has been proposed. 2. Volume/File structures are base on Secure UDF. 3. IPRP(Intellectual Property Right Protection) will be implemented in accordance with its specification.
