Settled by 1,000 wealthy Puritan’s in search of religious freedom.
Came to America on ship and established the Massachusetts Bay Colony near a modern city in America and nicknamed “City upon a hill”

4. Government
John Winthrop was governor of the colony from October 20, May 14, 1634
This government focused on religion, as they were founded based upon it.

5. Economics
The colony was all wealthy whites as they were in a era of slavery, and the colony made money from shipbuilding, fishing, fur,lumber production.
The creations in this colony were exported to Europe and purchased by other colonies.

6. Population 1630s population at 1,000. Mid 1640s population at 20,000.
English puritans settled in Massachusetts Bay.

7. Culture Religion was tied heavily into their culture.
The New England Way was a set of principles.
Dame Schools were taught by women.
Every kid in the colony had to know how to read.
Women were excluded from town meetings and decision making.
Children were considered property of their parents.
