1 MT 2 Chemical Bonds Terms

2 Valence Electron an electron in an outer shell of an atom that can participate in forming chemical bonds with other atoms

3 Ionic Bond When electrons are transferred between two ions with opposite charges. One will be positive (cation) , one will be negative (anion) It is a bond between a Metal & a Nonmetal

4 Positive Ion and Negative Ion
Positive Ion- Atom that lost electrons (cation) Formed by a Metal Negative Ion- Atom that has gained electrons (anion) Formed by a Nonmetal

5 Covalent Bond a chemical bond between non-metals formed by the sharing of one or more electrons.

6 a bond between metals creating a sea of electrons
Metallic Bond a bond between metals creating a sea of electrons

7 Lewis Dot Structures a way of representing atoms or molecules by showing electrons as dots surrounding the element symbol.
