Reading Objectives Be able to extract relevant information from a variety of informative texts, Understand and interpret longer informative texts, including magazines, from various cultural backgrounds Organize the scanned information in a logical manner or following a given format Demonstrate to be able to indentify the important points and themes in a longer text Identify relations, causes and aims and draw conclusions.

Writing objectives Communicate clearly, accurately and approprately
Convey information and express opinions effectively Use various grammar structures and appropriate vocabulary Use correct punctuation, phrasing and paragraphing Use an appropriate register in relation to the situation, the audience, the typology of text

Listening objectives:
Demonstrate understanding and collect details and facts, in informative texts Demonstrate general comprehension of the speaker and his aim Identify important points, theme, gist, and attitute Draw opinions and conclusions, identify relationships and register used. Take notes and use them to report information

Speaking objectives Demonstrate competence in a range of speech activities Be able to communicate ideas about past, present and future events and social themes Simulate a sustained conversation with a natural flow of speech Understand speakers’ relations, sense of audience and register Take active part in a discussion

CIE Marking Schemes Reading and Writing: 7 tasks integrating the two skills 2 hours marks Listening: several different tasks 45 minutes 30 marks Speaking: 3 tasks 15 minutes 30 marks (oral endorsement)

Grade Description: A To achieve a Grade A, a candidate will be able to: understand and communicate arguments, ideas and information in written and oral form structure work so that it is easy and consequential to follow select material from texts and develop it in relationship to the question, Show opinions and independence of thought describe an experience and express effectively what is felt and imagined recognise and explain the writer’s attitude to the subject matter give evidence of a good range of language spell and punctuate accurately, with few, if any, mistakes use well-constructed paragraphs and sentences obey standard grammatical conventions speak clearly and confidently in response to other speakers and occasionally take the initiative.

Grade Description: C To achieve a Grade C, a candidate will be able to: understand and communicate arguments, ideas and information at a straightforward level ensure that all work has a clear beginning, middle and ending, and that ideas generally follow on from one another select material from texts in answer to questions and provide straightforward explanations and developments recognise more obvious meanings and attitudes write with some knowledge of style and the possibility of varying it according to different types of writing; use a range of language adequate to all the tasks set spell and punctuate with accuracy so that communication is not impaired use adequate paragraphing and some variety of sentence construction speak clearly with some confidence, mostly in response to the directions of other speakers; show a readiness to listen to others and to respond appropriately.
