1 Welcome to Back To School Night 2018-19
Please sign in on the side counter. 2. Complete the “parent survey” using the chrome books. Turn on chrome book (top right corner) Do NOT sign in Go to “APPS” bottom left and click on parent survey 3. You are welcome to continue working on the parent survey while I begin my presentation. 4. 2 About Mrs.Edwards Mrs. Edwards Teaching 21 years
MA in middle school math education. Married Have 2 kids = me being a human taxi cab :o)

3 Universal Access School Wide (3rd period)
Universal Access (UA) period adds an additional instructional period to the school day (no homework). Students are grouped based by academic target areas. Classes designed to meet individual academic needs of students. Students target areas will change throughout the year & so will their UA teachers. Goal – to ensure high quality curriculum and instruction so that all students are college and career ready.

4 Extra Credit is available daily!
Math Daily Schedule Homework questions 5 points – Score based on COMPREHENSION! Notes will be graded & used as a classwork grade. New Lesson w/ in class practice with group practice. Independent Work/Practice Teacher/Student Homework Questions Helpful Supplies Math Notebook (spiral) Pencils, eraser, lined paper & graph paper CALCULATOR!!! All math homework/classwork and quizzes may be redone for higher scores! Students can do error analysis on all quizzes! Points will be given back on quiz if a student shows competency on the chapter test! Online help at connectED.mcgraw-hill.com ** Students can use a 5x8 notecard on all tests and quizzes. At Home Study notes/Error Analysis Extra credit ~ connected.mcgraw-hill.com Extra Credit is available daily!

5 Science Life Science (7th Grade)/ Physical Science (8th Grade)
Experiments (help w/ supplies would be very helpful!) Note taking skills Students can make 5 x 8 cards to use on quizzes and tests

6 Homework/Missing Work Policy/Projects
Used to reinforce what was taught in school Small amounts :o) Posted on the board & on teacher website – should be written in the binder reminder Late work – missing assignment reports handed out on Friday, work due by Monday during homeroom. Projects – Not too many. Most done in class and individually.

8 Binder Reminder/Grade Checks
Used to daily to write homework ~ please review the Binder Reminder to see that homework is being written down and completed daily. Progress reports will no longer be sent home by the teacher. Instead, students will log their progress in their binder reminder. This will be done bi-weekly, assigned Monday and checked Wednesday. All students are expected to do grade checks using grade/%. Parents will sign for 6 week progress reports in the binder reminder. Parent conferences are at the 6 week mark .

Username and password were generated via from the district If you are unable to access, please see me before you leave!!! This site is a MUST for parents to take an active role in their child’s education!!!

4. Make sure the “Parent Notification Preferences” box is checked 5. Using the drop down menu, select what day and time you want the notifications sent to you and click Save when done.

15 McDermott Park We encourage our students not to go to the park without parent supervision.  Students can wait on the HIS side of the parking lot until their rides arrive after school. Unsafe items and inappropriate behaviors have been observed at the park Many students use their lunch money to purchase unhealthy snacks from the snack bar and then hang out into the afternoon hours It is a city park, not school property.  Strangers, transient (homeless), and high school students hang out at the park Weapons, drugs, and other inappropriate things have been left at the park overnight 150+ students gather at the park in the afternoon

16 A Comfortable Class is a Successful Class
All school rules will be enforced including the gum, cell phone, & tardy policies. Tutoring is available on an “as needed” basis Healthy snacks & water
