Spacesuits are used for extra- vehicular activity (EVA).

Not having a spacesuit is dangerous. Spacesuits have changed little in the last 40 years.

And here is the new formfitting Bio-Suit that is made up of elastic polymers. that is made up of elastic polymers.

The New Bio-Suit This revolutionary new design uses advances in engineering, design, and medicine. It is pressurized using a mechanical counter- pressure directly on the skin. Technology Recyclable, self repairs Spray on Custom fit

Bio-Suit Pieces 1. Bio-Suit 2. Helmet 3. Boots (and gloves) 4. Hard torso shell 5. Life support system The image below shows where an oxygen tank can be attached. 1. Bio-Suit 2. Helmet 3. 8 Developers The Bio-Suit is being developed at MIT by: Dava J. Newman Jeffrey A. Hoffman And Team In 1970s Paul Webb came up with the space activity suit idea. Saul Iberall came with the idea of lines of non-extension. The Bio-Suit is being developed at MIT by: Dava J. Newman Jeffrey A. 9 Current Development of the Bio- Suit The Bio-Suit is still in the testing stages of development. They are trying to get a high enough consistent pressure. They are having some problems around the joints. They plan to use smart materials and Shape Memory Polymers to make the suit easy to take on and off. The Bio-Suit will provide a means to keep astronauts from losing muscle mass on long space missions. The Bio-Suit is still in the testing stages of development. 10 Future Implementations The Bio-Suit research is funded by a NASA small business technology transfer grant. The new Bio-Suit may: Simplify life-support system design Reduce energy expended by astronauts Be safer Cost less Hopefully the Bio-Suit will be ready in 10 years for planned missions to the Moon and Mars The Bio-Suit research is funded by a NASA small business technology transfer grant.
