Figure 1 All patients entered into the ICD Registry from January 2006 to December 2008 were eligible. Only hospitals that reported on all implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantations were included. ICDs that were reported to be placed for secondary prevention were excluded. Patients with prior syncope, prior tachycardia arrest, or prior sustained ventricular tachycardia or who had a prior ICD implantation were also excluded.
