May 1853 Russia issued demands, and when they were refused, troops began to occupy Turkish Moldavia and parts of Romania.

July 1853 Russia has occupied territories in Crimea that previously, had been controlled by Turkey.

Turks declared war on Russia, beginning the battle of Oltenitza.

Russians defeated a Turkish fleet at Sinope.

March 1854 War was declared on Russia by France and Britain, who moved to help the Turks.

September 1854 Battle of the Alma- Prince Menshikov attempted to stop allies (whom outnumbered him) from moving closer.

October 1854 Battle of Balaclava- most famous for the “Charge of the Light Brigade”.

February 1855 Battle of Eupatoria- Another Russian attempt to intervene, repulsed by the Turks.

August 1855 A great deal of Russian defences where destroyed during an Easter bombardment.

February-March 1856 A final peace was agreedat the Congress of Paris.
This resulted in the Treaty of Paris.
