Unit 1&2: A Nation and its Ideals Emerge Chapter 6B: Creating the Constitution: What is the proper role of a national government? SECTION 6.2 REVIEW – PAGE #F3: Question 1 answered from the perspective of a woman: “Thankfully all of our state constitutions begin with a statement of rights, which are guided by ideals in the Declaration of Independence. However, each state has different rules about voting. Only New Jersey allows women like me, who own property, to vote.” Question 2 answered from the perspective of a politician: “The Articles of Confederation were created when the Continental Congress recognized that the nation needed a national government to do what the states couldn’t do alone. While the states kept most of the powers, the Articles did allow us to better work together on such matters as establishing a postal system.” Question 3 answered from the perspective of a settler: “Many Americans like me supported the Land Ordinance of 1785 because it provided an efficient way for the government to divide and sell parcels of land in the Northwest Territory.” Question 4 answered from the perspective of an African American: “As part of the Northwest Ordinance of 1787, slavery was forbidden in the Northwest Territories. Hopefully this will prevent slavery from spreading any farther in the United States.”
