1 First we have the personal profile page, which is fed from HR and WatIAM data.
Let’s click on the Academic Background link…

2 We see the degrees this faculty member has
We see the degrees this faculty member has. This data was batch-imported by me, from the last research directory, and the faculty member actually went in and added the dates with months. Let’s click on Awards…

3 The awards for this faculty member… Let’s click on edit

4 And this is the info you can edit
And this is the info you can edit. Notice the “display on web” is set to yes, which we chose to use to include in the CS research directory. Next, let’s click on “Expertise”

5 The Keywords section is where we put the information that is turned into the CS research book index.
Next let’s click on the CS Research Book main page.

6 The main page for CS faculty, to edit their profiles
The main page for CS faculty, to edit their profiles. There are hints for which sections they should visit. The text fields were filled in from the prior research book. Overall, implementation took roughly a term including a few iterations of design, but the initial user interface took a week or so to design and implement, including database changes. Lastly, let’s look at contributions

7 The contributions page was pre-loaded with representative publications from the last research book; and let’s look at editing one.

8 The editing page. There are two methods for entering contributions; one is as a single text field, which is a new development and seems more popular. The second alternative is filling in bibliographic components separately, which would be more useful if we are able to transfer entries to and from other bibliographic databases. Moving onward, let’s look at a few Engineering professors, who will have Teaching records.

9 These records are imported for Engineering through the Dean’s office
These records are imported for Engineering through the Dean’s office. These are used to help produce a faculty member’s Annual Merit Report. Another section is Research Support:

10

11 Research Support data includes the entire campus, though it currently is only used by the Engineering faculty for reports. It includes data from the Office of Research on grants, titles, and types of support. A faculty member can add new entries, and currently if there are errors in existing records, they can report them to the OFIS maintainers, but the errors won’t be fixed until a future import. I have more to say on this process in a bit.
