The middle east is broken into three regions. The Eastern Mediterranean Central Asia Arabian Peninsula

5 Work Time In your groups read the source document and answer the assigned questions. Pages 30 and 31 Group A Group B Group C What is the driest area in the Middle East? Where does the Jordan river flow? How do commercial farms get water to their crops? Distinguish: What are the differences between the Dardanelles and Bosporus. Cite Evidence: Why is the Middle East a major producer of fertilizers? Draw Conclusions: If water is scarce what do you think these countries do with the fertilizer they create? Why do you think they named the lowest point on any continent “The Dead Sea”? How do you think the two very different climates of Turkey effect its culture? Explain why irrigation is an important part of the middle eastern society.
