Uniform Standards Wear the uniform with Pride, as a representative of the United States Coast Guard, Reserve, Auxiliary and the Civilian counterparts. Elected officers should set the example. ALL members of the Auxiliary should be cognizant of member’s uniform integrity.

Auxiliary Unique Items (Section E. AUX Manual)
E.3. Auxiliary Jump Suit Auxiliarists may wear a Jump suit on patrols and while conducting VSCs. Jump suits will be worn on patrols only if worn by all crew members. The Jump suit is dark blue, long- or short-sleeved, with or without belt loops. If with belt loops, the uniform belt and buckle shall be worn. No sewn-in belts (self belts) are authorized. The Jump suit may be purchased from commercial sources. E.3.a. Auxiliary Patch An Auxiliary patch, 2¼ by 3¼ inches, is worn on the left breast pocket. The Auxiliary patch will be a sew-on with white or black background. Auxiliarists may wear a U.S. flag patch, about 2 by 3½ inches, on the upper part of the left sleeve ½ inch below the shoulder seam. Both patches may be purchased from the AUXCEN. E.3.b. Name Tag A name tag is worn on the right breast and is either the regular pin-on type, Velcro style or sew-on name tag. When using the sew-on name tag, the sew-on “USCG AUXILIARY” tag must be on the left breast. E.3.c. Insignia or Collar Devices Miniature office insignia or member collar devices are authorized to be worn. Cloth embroidered collar devices may be worn. E.3.d. Shoes Blue, white or brown boating shoes or all black, low top athletic shoes with black socks are worn. E.3.e. Caps The blue unit baseball or blue working utility caps, and windbreakers are authorized.

ODU Top- Tucked and Untucked ODU
Worn with sleeves neatly rolled up accordion style or down. Cloth tapes are centered over the pockets as shown with the width of the tape running the width of the pocket flap. The member’s last name goes over the right pocket and USCG Auxiliary over the left. Velcro tapes are optional. Direct embroidery and plastic name tags are prohibited

Cloth tapes will consist of background color matching ODU material with white block letters between ½” to ¾” high. Only member’s last name is permitted. Tapes will be of the same size and shall be sewn on with matching blue thread at six (6) stitches per inch

Officer and Member: An embroidered miniature AuxOP device is authorized The device is to be centered directly above name tape

Collar Insignia on ODU Top- Tucked & Untucked
Both Officer and Member: Sew-on cloth devices are standard and metal collar devices are no longer authorized. Both are to be centered on the collar along an imaginary line bisecting the angle of the collar point

Qualification Insignia ODU Top- Tucked & Untucked (continued)
Officer and Member: Only the current or most recent embroidered qualification insignia is to be worn on the ODU. It is sewn centered, directly above the USCG Auxiliary tape. Thread will match the insignia background color and shall be a minimum of six stitches per inch. Direct embroidery is not authorized.

Coast Guard blue, short sleeve crew neck NOTE: after 15 July 07, no metal collar devices are allowed On the ODU for Auxiliarists.

ODU Sleeves- Tucked & Untucked
Sleeves may be worn down with cuffs buttoned (or) with sleeves neatly rolled. When properly rolled, the cuff should be approximately 2” above the elbow (mid-bicep) with only the cuff visible . To properly roll the sleeves takes some patience and a little practice, but once mastered can be achieved without difficulty. Depending on an individual’s size and sleeve length some sleeves may be rolled with one fold while others will take two. Also watch this movie on how to roll the Sleeves

Fully extend and flatten the sleeve on a level surface. Starting at the cuff turn sleeve inside out to armpit as shown. Take care to flatten the sleeve to remove any irregular folds or creases. To form the fold, roll the sleeve in half again to form two equal segments the width of the “cuff”. (continued on next slide)

Next, turn the cuff down over the fold (Pinching the outer edge of the sleeve to begin the fold will help to keep the fabric from slipping). Once in place, take care to flatten the sleeve to remove any irregular folds or creases. When properly done, only the cuff should be visible. To remove the roll, simply pull the lower edge of the cuff downward toward the wrist.

Belt / Buckle- Tucked ODU
Belt - Black webbing with black metal tip* Buckle - Black subdued, open-framed 2” – 4” The ODU belt & buckle are to be worn by both men and women in the same manner as the men’s standard CG belt. The metal tip is run through the belt loops beginning on the left side of the zipper. Once fastened, the metal tip will extend from 2” to 4” beyond the buckle. *Riggers Belt Authorized for tucked ODU and mandatory for the untucked ODU

The right side of the buckle (as viewed by wearer) shall be aligned with the right side of the shirt opening and the right side of the zipper to form a straight line as shown (both men and women). Dotted lines indicate alignment of ODU top, buckle, and trousers (gig line).

ODU Trousers Bloused atop Boots
Attach the “band” around the top of the boot. Pull the trouser cuff over the band and roll the cuff inward, underneath the band. Once the cuff is in place, position the band just above the second eyelet of the boot. Blousing bands and socks should not be visible. Cord style (shown) and Velcro bands are authorized (dark colors).

The Untucked ODU The new Untucked ODU fabric is made of a 50/50 Nylon and Cotton blend. The Uniform also has added enhancements that include: Featuring proprietary StainSmart® technology, Coast Guard Operational Dress Uniform is the ideal solution for the demanding conditions of maritime life for the members of the US Coast Guard. The built-in fabric technology is designed to aid in getting out transmission fluid, motor oils, grease stains and other damaging substances in shipboard laundries, as well as resist fading so it stays looking and performing better, longer. Wrinkle Resistance to be more "wash and wear."

THE ODU IS NOT A LIBERTY UNIFORM AND IS NOT TO BE WORN AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR COVERALLS. WEAR WHILE TRAVELING TDY IN GOVERNMENT VEHICLES, VESSELS, AIRCRAFT, ON ORDERS IN A COMMERCIAL CONVEYANCE, OR WHILE TRAVELING ON ORDERS WEAR WHILE COMMUTING, TO INCLUDE MASS TRANSIT, DURING INFORMAL OFF- BASE LUNCHES, VISITS TO DOD FACILITIES, OR FOR SHORT STOPS IN CONVENIENCE OR RETAIL STORES.

WEAR WHILE IN AN EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT AT OTHER DOD AGENCIES (AS DIRECTED BY THE COMMANDING OFFICER). THE UNTUCKED ODU SHIRT WILL ONLY BE TUCKED IN WHEN CONDUCTING ACTIVITIES THAT REQUIRE WEAR OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT BELT. IN NO OTHER INSTANCE IS TUCKING OF THE UNTUCKED ODU SHIRT AUTHORIZED.

THE ODU SHIRT IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE UNIFORM. IT MAY ONLY BE REMOVED TEMPORARILY, AT COMMANDING OFFICERS DISCRETION, WHEN WORKING IN EXCESSIVELY HOT CONDITIONS AND OUT OF THE PUBLIC EYE. THE ODU IS AUTHORIZED FOR OFFICE WEAR AT THE COMMANDING OFFICERS DISCRETION.

T Shirt (continued) The improved Coast Guard T-shirt is made of pre-shrunk 100% cotton, with an 3/4 inch embroidered U.S. COAST GUARD on the wearers left. The new T-shirt also maintains a better color fastness then the current blue Short periods in hot weather only as Authorized by the Commanding Officer

New ODU Top- Untucked ODU
The Coast Guard Shield will be embroidered on the wearer's right shirt pocket and the two cargo pockets on the trousers. The Coast Guard has included the shield to identify an official CG ODU, along with showing the wearer's pride in the Coast Guard and the uniform.

Pen and Pencil Pocket- Untucked ODU
The hidden Pencil & Pen Pocket allows you to always keep a writing tool handy without the unprofessional look of a pen protruding from a pocket.

Button Pockets- Untucked ODU
The trousers have been redesigned with button pockets, thus eliminating the hook and loop fasteners. This feature has been one of the most requested changes from the fleet

Cargo Pockets- Untucked ODU
New to the Untucked ODU is an elasticized cargo pocket. No longer will your cargo pocket hang loose, with the heavy-duty elastic along with a button fastener, the pocket stays close to the pants. Items in cargo pockets must Not detract from a sharp, military Appearance.

Enhanced Trouser Hem- Untucked ODU
The trouser hem has been enhanced with two pre-sewn eyelets. This allows the wearer an option to insert a lace, or thread the blousing straps for a more professional look when blousing.

Coast Guard Rigger’s Belt
This belt is a 1 3/4" black nylon belt. When work, the bitter end shall extend 2-4 inches past the belt buckle on the wearers left. (This will require the belt be passed through the belt loops from the right, the opposite of other men's belts.) The basic riggers belt comes in one length and needs to be cut to size. To determine the correct belt length, lace the belt through and over the belt bar. Finally pull to secure. Next, mark the belt so that no more than 4 inches extend past the buckle. Make a straight cut along this mark. Singe the end to avoid unraveling. *Riggers Belt Authorized for tucked ODU and mandatory for the untucked ODU

Blue baseball cap (as for ODU) OR Auxiliary Sun Hat (Tilley Hat) NO insignia is authorized Available from District Materials Store only

Hats/Caps USCG Unit Cap (not for use in public activities)
Watch Cap (cold weather only) Approved Navy bell shaped, rib knit pullover style design commercial equivalent of knitted navy blue yarn OK No insignia are worn on this cap. USCG Unit Cap (not for use in public activities) Work with the Garrison Cap Device on a CG Station ONLY.

HATS /CAPS Standard USCGAUX Ball Cap Silver letters, w/ USCG AUX
Member device or miniature office device The standard Auxiliary ball cap worn by Auxiliarists shall conform to the provisions of ALCOAST 291/11 that deal with material, circumstances for wear, and general appearance. Oak leaves and acorns (aka, scrambled eggs) will no longer be authorized for wear on any ball cap worn by Auxiliarists as of December 31, 2012

Socks Socks can be knee length or mid calf but any portion above the boot must be black in color. With trousers properly fitted and bloused, socks will not be visible.

Working Shoes/Boots Black, high-topped boots Preferably safety boots
