1 Revision Period

2 Your Questions How to compare/link the poems together?
Can we get some model answers and go through to identify where marks are allocated? Look at how effective + tone questions. How to know when enough is enough in your answer (when to stop writing!). How to write concluding sentences. How to refer back to the question. How to identify what the question is really asking. How to analyse enjambment. Time management  how to manage time in a timed paper.

3 How to compare/link the poems together?
Comparison KO will be/has been handed out, showing links between key ideas/themes/techniques.

4 Can we get some model answers and go through to identify where marks are allocated?
Yes – I have given you some exemplars to go away with. We will come back to this after the Christmas break so we can take more time over this.

5 How to know when enough is enough in your answer (when to stop writing
So every section of analysis should contain the following. If you have all of this, it all makes sense, and your points are clear, then you should be good to finish up. Introduce quote – refer to technique + question. What does the technique show/tell you? (if imagery – what is compared + what does this show?) Pull apart quotation – look at word choice x1 (quote word, definition, connotations + what suggests) Final reference to question/comment on the quotation.

6 How to write concluding sentences + how to refer back to the question.
Both of these come under the same category. Begin your concluding sentence with a connective (word or phrase). Overall/ Clearly/ To conclude/ In summary/ Evidently/ Ultimately/ Undoubtedly/ Obviously/ On the whole/… 2. It is clear that X [the technique/theme/issue Q asked you to talk about] effectively shows [what does it show/tell us].

7 How to analyse enjambment.
When a sentence runs onto next line with no punctuation at the end of the line. It is irregular, and destroys the expected structure of a poem. Allows poet to run ideas on from one another – shows extended thought/manic thought/continued movement etc. Enjambment is used within X, acting as a means of destruction – here

8 Look at how effective + tone questions.

9 Time Management 20 minutes at most for your 10 mark question.
6 minutes per 4 mark question. 5 minutes for your 2 mark question. Any remaining time fleshing out your answers! * Practice at home!! *

10 Ways to revise the poems?
Use the Knowledge Organiser you have been given to learn contextual information, as well as information about key themes. Use the ‘Snap Revision’ book to revise alternative annotations and complete some of the questions contained within it. Use cue cards. Complete your study pack. Find a blank copy of each poem + go through, identifying techniques etc (practice for the exam when you will only have a blank copy).

11 Studying Create and use cue cards.
Answer the questions on the back of your Knowledge Organiser. Ask questions on my blog if you are concerned about anything. Do not leave it until the first week back as one double period is not enough time to allay concerns and complete sufficient practice. Complete your study pack – all tasks, and at least 2 questions for each poem (however – would recommend that you complete more than that!) Create your own timed paper from the questions at the end of your pack – information contained within it re timings and question selection.
