Interview Writing Assignment
2
The Assignment Your goal is to write a PROFILE of your interviewee OR address a significant event or activity in that person’s life. Show readers what is unique, special, or meaningful about this person. You will also give a good sense of his or her personality, body language, attitude, etc.
3
The Assignment Remember that this is a profile—NOT a biography.
You cannot give this person's life history. You can only focus in on one to three key issues.
4
Pre-Writing Decide what you will write about and determine an interesting figure you can interview. Do preliminary research before the interview to decide what kind of questions you should ask.
5
Pre-Writing Prepare at least three thought-provoking questions you will ask. Ask good, open-ended questions. That means no yes or no questions. During the interview, make sure you take a lot of notes, and, if possible, tape record the interview so you can remain focused on the conversation.
6
Grading Rubric Title and Introduction (getting readers' attention, generating interest in your topic) 15 pts Specific details of the story and about interviewee's demeanor/body language. Include good sensory information 30 pts Direct Quotes with correct punctuation (at least one good quote in each section, giving readers a sense of the interviewee's voice and personality) 20 pts Conclusion 5 pts Form, grammar, appropriate length, and overall quality 30pts
7
Format MLA First page heading, page numbers, margins, font type and size Single-spaced with an extra space between paragraphs. Journalistic style with short sentences, paragraphs, and objectivity. Paper length is a minimum of 800 words.
