8 Course Selection Guidance
Research the course profiles on the counseling website Choose electives wisely! Select at least two alternatives for each Talk to your teachers for recommendations or to learn more about a specific class Consider your extracurricular commitments and the need for an unscheduled period Remember: the only way to guarantee you will not have a class in a specific period is to request an unscheduled period during that time

9 PE Requirements All 9th grade students must enroll in Year One PE or Dance which include the health curriculum Eligible students may apply to SDUHSD for Independent Study Physical Education (ISPE). For both Fall & Spring ISPE, eligible students must submit an online application from April 15 – May 31 via the SDUHSD website. All 9th grade students who are approved for ISPE will be offered the required Health curriculum and must complete it by the district deadline. *There will be no exceptions to the district deadlines for ISPE & Health. 9th grade students must pass the PFT to remain eligible for ISPE or athletic PE credit.

10 Off Campus Coursework Students may take up to 30 credits of pre-approved off campus coursework to supplement their CCA courses. No student may begin to acquire high school credits until the day after the completion of the 8th grade. Off campus math courses may not be used to accelerate from college prep to SDUHSD honors level math courses unless they are taken in combination with a SDUHSD Bridge course If you plan to complete an off campus course follow the steps below: Consult with your current middle school counselor. Submit an SDUHSD Off Campus Course Permission Form at your designated registration night, or to CCA during the week of May only.

11 Balance & Wellness There is a lot of flexibility in the 4x4 schedule; you can and should spread out your academic requirements throughout your high school career. Remain open-minded about trying new courses and exploring interests This is your personal high school experience, and it should include more than just school and homework time. What will excite you? Do you have time for sports, clubs, or activities? How will you find time for your social, family, and personal time? Be mindful of homework loads by reviewing course profiles – there are only 24 hours in a day. SDUHSD Talking Points for a School-Life Balance Plan These 4 years go by quickly – enjoy them!

12 Course Selection Guidelines
Students must take a minimum of three classes each semester Grade level preference may be given to all courses and courses may be canceled due to insufficient interest or staffing restrictions Students are selecting classes; we cannot guarantee any specific terms, periods or teachers. If a class is already in your schedule, we cannot make changes to move terms or periods Schedule changes cannot be made to accommodate extracurricular activities (jobs, internships, sports, etc.) – if you cannot have a class during a particular period, request an unscheduled period ***No elective changes will be made after the start of the year***
