THE WITNESSES – John 5:31ff
Jesus summarizes the heart of the matter: They’re “unwilling.” (verse 40; 5:6; 7:17; Luke 9:24). They lack the “love of God.” (verse 42; 1 John 2:5; 1 John 5:3; 1 Corinthians 13:1- 3) Their desire is to please men and not God. (Verses 41, 44; Matthew 6:1, 5, 16; Galatians 1:10; 2 Timothy 2:4)

Matthew 12:1-8 Mark 2:23-28 Luke 6:1-5 THE DISCIPLES PICK GRAIN ON THE SABBATH Jesus and His disciples go through the grain field. His hungry disciples began to pick and eat the heads of grain. Deuteronomy 23:25 The Pharisees objected: “Look, Your disciples do what is not lawful to do on a Sabbath.”

The 39 Prohibited Activities As based on the Mishnah Tractate Shabbat 7:2, the 39 activities are:
Sowing Plowing Reaping Binding sheaves Threshing Winnowing Selecting Grinding Sifting Kneading Baking Shearing wool Washing wool Beating wool Dyeing wool Spinning Weaving Making two loops Weaving two threads Separating two threads Tying Untying Sewing stitches Tearing Trapping Slaughtering Flaying Tanning Scraping hide Marking hides Cutting hide to shape Writing two or more letters Erasing two or more letters Building Demolishing Extinguishing a fire Kindling a fire Putting the finishing touch on an object Transporting an object between a private domain and the public domain, or for a distance of 4 cubits within the public domain.
