Review of Activities for Phase II of African Project on 2008 SNA

I. Introduction Project document identified activities to be carried out for its success. Activities scheduled over the 5 years of the project. Phase I launched in January 2014 is nearing its end this year. Need to update the plan for the next phase, thus to evaluate what is left. A view to ensure basis for updating the project document for the next phase.

Grouped by objective (9 in total) and outputs (20) With direct link with the six pillars of the project implementation 6 Pillars of the project implementation: 1. Country plans and actions 2. Technical assistance 3. Institutional strengthening 4. Compiling technical documents 5. Advocacy campaign 6. Monitoring, evaluation, and reporting

Objectives of Project Activities (cont’d) 1- Technical, institutional and financial preparation and arrangement for the Regional Project 2- A set of guidebooks (e.g. manuals and handbooks) for the implementation of SNA in Africa developed and applied 3- ICP-Africa adopted as a framework for capacity-building for national accounts 4- Availability and quality of the basic data required for the compilation of national accounts improved through the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) 5- An optimal and efficient operational system for national accounts production and dissemination developed

Responses: 20 Countries , 3 Partner organisations Countries: Algeria – Burundi – Cameroon – Djibouti – Egypt – Gambia – Ghana – Lesotho - Liberia – Niger – Sao Tome et Principe – Seychelles – Siera Leone – Somalia – South Sudan – Sudan – Tanzania – Tunisia - Uganda – Zambia. Partner organisations: INSEE – AFRISTAT – AfriITAC

Conclusion None of the project activities has become irrelevant from all countries point of view. Different scores suggest for activities suggest different attainment by countries. Removal of some activities may be detrimental of the progress of the countries to which these activities are relevant. The conduct of the project should continue in line with the six pillars, with the identified/assigned leadership roles.
