What are the advantages?

Authorization Schools may offer the IB program only if authorized by the IBO. Nogales High School received authorization in July of 2000.

What does the Diploma Program curriculum contain?
Students study concurrently: three subjects at higher level (240 hours each). three subjects at standard level (150 hours each). all three parts of the core. Page 8

Diploma Core Includes: Creativity/Action/Service (CAS) 150 Hours
Theory of Knowledge (TOK) 12th Grade Class Extended Essay (4,000 words) Questers’ Club

The IB Diploma Students must take exams in all six areas and complete the “core” requirements. At least three must be at the Higher Level. (A maximum of 4 is permitted.) Three may be at the Standard Level. (If 4 at HL, then 2 at SL) All exams are rated from 1-7, with 4 considered passing. A total of 24 points scored on exams earns you the IB diploma, but 30 points earns you 30 UC credits

Assessment of IB Work Internal assessments graded by teacher and externally moderated. External assessments graded by examiners from all over the world. Teachers assign their own grades for report card purposes.

Declaration Procedure
Complete the 10th Grade Application Turn in application, TWO teacher recommendation forms, and a writing sample Attend interview with IB Coordinator, IB Counselor and IB Administrator Students will be notified regarding acceptance by the IB Coordinator or IB Counselor

Can students participate in sports, Band and other activities and be in IB? YES Does it cost money to take the exams? YES Does NHS, the District and the State make a special effort to support IB? YES Is it still good to have taken IB even if you don’t pass the exam? YES Is an IB course different at another school? NO THE COURSE CURRICULUM IS SET BY IB, NOT THE SCHOOL.
