LKB1 promotes HSC quiescence and maintenance through regulating proliferation, metabolism, and cell survival in an AMPK-, mTORC1-, and FoxO-independent mechanism. The LKB1 target that mediates HSC function is unknown and could be one of the 14 known AMPK-related kinases.
