6 Empathy Activity! Class Discussion:
Look at the quote to the right. What does it mean? What does empathy mean? Would you consider yourself an empathetic person? Why or why not? Has there ever been a situation that required you to put yourself in someone else’s shoes?

7 Empathy Activity! Consider the three scenarios and put yourself in the position of the teacher, parent, or police officer. With your group/partner consider their perspective on the situation and in the space below, write how you think each of these people felt in each particular situation. Make predictions about why they reacted the way they did, what their lives might be like, or what they might have been thinking/feeling/dealing with that day.

8 Empathy Activity! Once you finish the empathy activity, turn over your paper – there’s more on the back!  Read the novel quotations along the left side of your page. Each of these quotes connects with the topic of empathy that develops in the novel. Choose two quotes to examine further and answer the questions on the right side of the page. Once you finish, feel free to work on your homework: Read Chapter 25.
