Indeed, during the last two decades, obesity-related topics have been the subject of numerous studies. The objective of this study is to conduct a bibliometric analysis of all obesity-related publications in the category of nutrition and dietetics in Science Citation Index (SCI) from Methods In the 2004 edition of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), 5968 journals are listed in the Science Citation Index (SCI). Of these, 53 journals covered the subject of nutrition & dietetics and were thus used in this study. A keyword search, using the following terms, was performed to identify obesity-related studies published between 1991 and 2004: obesity, obese, and overweight. Results The results indicated that ten document types were found in the total of 10,336 documents. English was the dominant language, comprising 99% of the articles. Figure 1. Annual publication output Table 1. Publication activity of top ten countries Table 3. Major characteristics of the research P, No. of articles; PG, Total pages; AU, No. of authors; J, No. of journals; SP, single country publications; CP, international collaborative publications Table 2. Ten most used author keywords Conclusions The most used author keyword in Obesity Research was ‘body mass index’, in obesity-related research. The yearly production has increased with the United States producing 41% the articles followed distantly by the UK with 8.4% contribution. Author numbers indicate a continuous growth of the scientific community. Thirty-two percent of all articles were published in International Journal of Obesity.
