Ionic Bonds Remember the Octet Rule? How many electrons do atoms need to be happy and stable? Ionic bonds are created when electrons are transferred (given away or taken/accepted) Ionic bonds are created by combining metals and nonmetals

Directions 1. Find your elements on the periodic table Potassium

Potassium = K Bromine = Br 2. Write the symbol for each element

K 4. Draw the valence electrons on a counter-clockwise direction for each element Br

6. Draw arrows to show the transfer of electrons
