Funding Goals Develop novel transdisciplinary line of research that leads to submission of one or more substantial proposals for extramural support for a longer-term project I3 partnerships should emerge from shared research interests and needs and be developed in relation to external funding opportunities, UO’s institutional strengths, and academic priorities List of prior awardees and their project title on RDS website

Eligible Applicants Tenured or tenure track and career non-tenure track faculty in the research associate and research professor classification with full time (1.0 FTE) appointments who will hold a UO appointment during the academic year(s) of the research award are eligible Faculty members may submit only ONE application as principal investigator, but may serve as a team member on other proposals Funding preference is given to investigators without active VPRI seed funding from other internal awards programs

Ineligible Applicants
Emeritus, retired, courtesy, Visiting, instructor, postdoc, librarian, and pro-term faculty are ineligible Faculty members funded through the I 3 program are not eligible to compete in future grant cycles for three years from the activation date of the successful proposal

Scope of Award Expected Outcome
$50,000 for up to 24 month project period Projects begin 7/1/2019 Final reports due 30 days after end of project period Expected Outcome Submission of a proposal for extramural funding for a center, program, or large-scale research grant that involves multiple faculty investigators for an award period of three or more years

Budget: Allowable Expenses
Travel Equipment Supplies Contractual services Core/shared facility use Graduate or undergraduate student effort Technical personnel External collaborators

Budget: Unallowable Costs
Replace current funding from another source Faculty salary or stipend Instructional release Construction or facility renovation Curriculum or career development

Proposal Cover Sheet Proposal Narrative (3 pages) Curriculum Vitae (2 pages) Current and Pending Support Budget & justification Letter of support (Department head, dean, center director) Times New Roman font in 11 point or larger and 1” margins

Proposal Narrative Introduction Proposed Plan
Background or rationale for the project, including significance Describe how the proposed work represents a novel research direction among an interdisciplinary team Identify current status of the research at UO Proposed Plan Describe overall project aims or goals Identify specific research, scholarly, and/or proposal development activities to which funds will be applied, how you will complete these activities, the roles and responsibilities of each collaborator, and how these activities will enhance the competitiveness of the project for external funding External Funding Strategy Identify external funding agency and program and submission deadlines, and provide strategy and timeline to prepare and submit to these opportunities Describe the fit between the proposed project and external funding priorities/opportunities References: limited to 1 additional page

Review Process Initial review: Compliance with guidelines
Primary review: Faculty Committee appointed by OVPRI Notification of awards: May 2019

Review committee consists of faculty across disciplines; write for a sophisticated, scholarly audience, but not your disciplinary peers Develop strong argument for your project Reach out to RDS with questions
