DEVELOPMENT OBJECTIVE
The course’s long-term perspective is to strengthen African trade unions’ capacity to play an informed and robust role in the formulation and implementation of pertinent policies and time-bound programs to tackle the employment crisis facing young people in Africa

IMMEDIATE OBJECTIVES At the end of the training course, participants will be able to: Explain the extent and the impact of the youth employment crisis on Africa’s development Identify major constraints to putting decent work, full and productive employment, sustainable enterprise development and respect for young people’s rights at the core of the policy response to the youth employment crisis; Promote the utilization of the ILO standards and relevant tools as well as the priorities of the Workers’ Group to respond to the youth employment crisis; Propose union-led youth employment and labour market policies; Develop the capacity of trade unions on the methods and processes to implement their policy proposals informed by strategies of how to exert more influence, through social dialogue, lobbying and advocacy, in the design and planning of employment and labour market policies

Expected Outcomes The following are the expected outcomes of this training course: Increased knowledge about the youth employment crisis and its impact on Africa’s development; Improved and better understanding of the Decent Work Agenda and how to realize its goals for young workers at country level; Proposed policies and strategies for promoting Decent Work for young workers; Proposed employment and labour market policies; Strengthened trade union Networks at all levels to facilitate the exchange of experiences and sharing of information through coordinated actions by trade unions for the defense and promotion of the rights and interests of young workers in the DWCPs and Post-2015 Development as well as other Development Initiatives.

METHODOLOGY The training course will be participatory and will involve a variety of active learning methods and interactive sessions We grave your indulgence to be active and participative throughout the course Your experience would not only inform everyone but also enable all of us to come up with Action Plans to address relevant challenges

Strategy Each participant will prepare a follow up Action Plan to enable him/her transfer the knowledge and skills gained to his/her union and co-worker on the following issues: Capacity Building: Training, Education and Research Rights for Young People Employment and Macroeconomic Policies for Youth Employment Employability: Education, Training and Skills, and the School-to-work transition Rural Employment for Youth in Africa The Cooperative: A Model for Work and Development The individual Action Plans will be used for impact assessment and as yardsticks to determine future follow up activities Guidelines for preparing follow up proposal will be provided at the appropriate time

Be active & participative in all activities through out the course as your experience is a valuable source of education for all, including us Be PUNCTUAL! – please….. Daily Report in the morning of each day: Each participant will inform the group of one or two key ideas that they learnt or found useful from the previous day’s sessions Come up with ideas for follow up work plan
