Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Motivations
Remember… Intrinsic motivations are internal motivations that give psychic or spiritual satisfaction one receives from work. Intrinsic = Internal, from within Some intrinsic motivations for teachers are: Working with students (of any age) Knowing you are providing an important public service Developing and implementing lessons that are effective Being intellectually stimulated about new content and/or teaching practices Seeing other teachers, staff, and students succeed in learning or other areas.
10
Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Motivations
Extrinsic rewards, however, are defined as outside, public attractions such as money, prestige, and/or power. Extrinsic= From outside (Remember exit, extra) Some extrinsic motivators for teachers include: Having a summer break A decent, middle-class salary with benefits Having power over others (grades, etc.) Time-wise it is less demanding than other careers Job security in tough times Getting gifts from students, parents, and discounts from businesses

Project time: Today you will pretend like you work in Human Resources at the Wicomico County Board of Education. You are having a difficult time finding qualified teachers to come teach in Salisbury, so you need to advertise with brochures at a local job fair. You need to give some good reasons for teachers to apply in your brochure.
12
What you will do… You will create a tri-fold brochure to give out.
You will need to go to mrruarkearthscience.weebly.com I’ll show you where to download. Open up the template. We will choose a school in Wicomico County to research.
13
You need to create a tri-fold that…
Advertises a school in Wicomico County. YOU CANNOT USE JMB HIGH SCHOOL! Has at least 5 intrinsic and 5 extrinsic (realistic) motivations advertised. It must contain 4 or more pictures and a logo! DOES NOT REPEAT ANY OF WHAT I ALREADY CREATED! Is well researched. The information is generally accurate! This is a project grade! It will be printed out IN COLOR by the print shop! is my address.
