4 - STRUGGLE FOR POWER Another new gov’t comes to power Often a fight for power occurs Strict rule and oppression 5 - SOLUTION Another new gov’t takes over and implements new policies to stabilize gov’t Allow for order but not necessarily fair to the people Often situation is as bad if not worse than when the revolution started

American Revolution 1775 (1st Battle Occurred) – 1781 (Britain Surrendered) Sudden Radical Attempt at Change Related to Government Involving Adversaries within the Same Country Based upon the clash of Political Ideas Was a colony of Britain & wanted to be free & independent Change of government from Limited Monarchy to a democracy Loyalists (supporters of remaining a colony) v. Patriots (colonists who wanted independence) Limited Monarchy (leader who inherits power) vs. Republic (leader who is elected)

But…The French & Indian War started it all!
War between the British/Colonists and the French/Indians over territory in North America British/Colonists won, but it strained the relationship between the two War caused Brits to fall into debt & they wanted the Colonies to pay Key Idea! British have A LOT more land and need to raise TAXES to govern it and recover from war debt…place burden on Colonists, without their input or consent in Parliament! Stamp Act Taxes More Taxes Boston Massacre Tea Party WAR After lecture – Show John Green American Revolution Video – approx 11 minutes
