1
Prime Factorization Prime factorization or integer factorization of a number is the determination of the set of prime numbers which multiply together to give the original integer. It is also known as prime decomposition.
2
Prime Numbers A prime number can only be divided by 1 or itself, so it cannot be factored any further!
3
Not Prime Numbers (Composite) Prime Numbers

Factor Trees

Hmmm… Writing Prime Factors in EXPONENTIAL NOTATION!!
List all of your prime factors (2 x 2 x 3 x 3 x 3) Write the exponential notation (2 x 3 ) Evaluate to check (4 x 27 = 108) 2 3
7
Use a Factor Tree to help find the prime factors of each composite number. Then “write the number as a product of its prime factors in exponential notation.”
