Rime of the Ancient Mariner
published in 1798 in Lyrical Ballads, a collection of poems that essentially launched the movement known as British Romanticism. The collection marked a pretty radical departure from the standard poetry of the time, and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner has several hallmarks that would later become associated with Romanticism: elements of the supernatural a deep sense of history lots of dramatic images of nature formal experimentation an interest in conversational language

With your group: Illustrate what happens in your assigned part of the poem. Write 2-3 sentences summarizing. Annotate as many examples in your part as you can of the following types of figurative language and sound devices. Lyrics are emotional, rhyming poems Ballads are stories in poetic form Lyric poems have a musical rhythm, and their topics often explore romantic feelings or other strong emotions. You can usually identify a lyric poem by its musicality: if you can imagine singing it, it's probably lyric poetry. Ballad Poems are poems that tells a story similar to a folk tale or legend and often has a repeated refrain. Focus on show not tell language Most stanzas have four-lines, called a "quatrain," and an ABCB rhyme scheme. The line lengths alternate between eight syllables in the first and third lines, and six syllables in the second and fourth
