ex. Chef suit for baking a cake
You do not want all the attention on the clothes.

4. Eye Contact Maintain eye contact with the audience
It shows confidence/ gets their attention

5. Get Their Attention Start the speech by getting their attention
Use a joke/humor that is relevant
Use a quote
Give stats
Pose a question
Personal Anecdote/story
Shock and Awe/use a startling statement

6. Avoid distractions Chewing gum Playing with your hair or mouth
Stand tall, don’t sway back and forth
Stay on topic

7. Speaking Have the appropriate volume Speak at an appropriate rate
Don’t just read. Use pauses for tempo.
Choice of inflections
Clarity of words
Speak to the audience (not downward)
Be organized (know all the words)

8. Use Visual Aids They add to the value of the speech
They help the audience identify what is said
The info or pictures must be big enough to see

9. The Presentation
Be professional about the speech. It is not a stand-up comedy routine. You hold the power! How you present is just as important as what you present
