2. Checking Spectrum Control / TPC version
For old (and locally installed) versions having the “TPC Stand-alone GUI”, proceed with next page.
For newer IBM Spectrum Control versions without this, like and higher, proceed to page 9.
For IBM Storage Insights, proceed to page 11.

3. Select Stand-alone GUI, and log in

4. At left, go to. Disk Manager > Reporting
At left, go to Disk Manager > Reporting > Storage Subsystem Performance > by Storage Subsystem
assuming, the monitoring and data collection had already been running
click there

5. Selection: Storage System; Time Period
Click Selection, and select only one DS8000
Then go to “Display historic performance data using absolute time”. Select a busy time period e.g. between 2 and 7 days, like the recent week
Then click Generate Report
(yes, we want all columns)

6. Report: Go to File > Export Data
You‘ll see the report of one machine.
At upper left, click File > Export Data

7. Take right data format: CSV with headers
When saving, change data format first to “Comma delimited file with headers”
We need these headers!!

8. Checking the final files – one file per system
You see the final CSV (with headers)
Repeat this for every machine. We need as many CSV files, as machines.

But now consider the right time frame. We’ll want to have several days in there, like at least 2…3 busy days in many cases, if not a full week. Use the -start parameter therefore accordingly.

11. New IBM Spectrum Control, or IBM Storage Insights: Direct export – GUI
GUI, showing Block Storage Systems: Use Right-Click to “Export Performance Data”.
Then click on the time interval to change it: to a longer range. Go “Update”. Then press “Create” to save this package.
