All those gathered may be seated. The pastor or leader says or sings the Opening Psalm appointed for the day Psalm 55:1-8; 22 (NIV) 5  Fear and trembling have beset me; horror has overwhelmed me. 6  I said, "Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest-- 7  I would flee far away and stay in the desert; Selah

All those gathered may be seated. The pastor or leader says or sings the Opening Psalm appointed for the day Psalm 55:1-8; 22 (NIV) 8  I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm." 22  Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.

12 After the Opening Psalm, the pastor or leader and all those gathered say or sing
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

13 The Old Testament lesson is read
Jeremiah 7:9-17 (NIV) 9  "'Will you steal and murder, commit adultery and perjury, burn incense to Baal and follow other gods you have not known, 10  and then come and stand before me in this house, which bears my Name, and say, "We are safe"--safe to do all these detestable things?

14 The Old Testament lesson is read
Jeremiah 7:9-17 (NIV) 11  Has this house, which bears my Name, become a den of robbers to you? But I have been watching! declares the LORD. 12  "'Go now to the place in Shiloh where I first made a dwelling for my Name, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel.

15 The Old Testament lesson is read
Jeremiah 7:9-17 (NIV) 13 While you were doing all these things, declares the LORD, I spoke to you again and again, but you did not listen; I called you, but you did not answer.

16 The Old Testament lesson is read
Jeremiah 7:9-17 (NIV) 14 Therefore, what I did to Shiloh I will now do to the house that bears my Name, the temple you trust in, the place I gave to you and your fathers.

17 The Old Testament lesson is read
Jeremiah 7:9-17 (NIV) 15 I will thrust you from my presence, just as I did all your brothers, the people of Ephraim.' 16 "So do not pray for this people nor offer any plea or petition for them; do not plead with me, for I will not listen to you.

18 The Old Testament lesson is read
Jeremiah 7:9-17 (NIV) 17 Do you not see what they are doing in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

19 At the end of the reading, the reader says
This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

20 The Epistle is read 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 (NIV) 1  Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. 2  You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.

21 The Epistle is read 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 (NIV) 3  Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. 4  There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.

22 The Epistle is read 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 (NIV) 5  There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6  There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. 7  Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

23 The Epistle is read 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 (NIV) 8  To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9  to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,

24 The Epistle is read 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 (NIV) 10  to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

25 The Epistle is read 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 (NIV) 11  All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

26 At the end of the reading, the reader says
This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

27 The pastor or leader then says or sings the Gradual Psalm appointed for the day
Psalm 137:1-6 (NIV) 1  By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion. 2  There on the poplars we hung our harps, 3  for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!"

28 The pastor or leader then says or sings the Gradual Psalm appointed for the day
Psalm 137:1-6 (NIV) 4  How can we sing the songs of the LORD while in a foreign land? 5  If I forget you, O Jerusalem, may my right hand forget [its skill]. 6  May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not consider Jerusalem my highest joy.

29 After the Gradual Psalm, the pastor or leader and all those gathered say or sing
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

30 The people stand for the Gospel reading
Luke 19:41-47 (NIV) 41  As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42  and said, "If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace--but now it is hidden from your eyes.

31 The people stand for the Gospel reading
Luke 19:41-47 (NIV) 43  The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side.

32 The people stand for the Gospel reading
Luke 19:41-47 (NIV) 44  They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you."

33 The people stand for the Gospel reading
Luke 19:41-47 (NIV) 45  Then he entered the temple area and began driving out those who were selling. 46  "It is written," he said to them, "'My house will be a house of prayer'; but you have made it 'a den of robbers.'"

34 The people stand for the Gospel reading
Luke 19:41-47 (NIV) 47  Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him.

35 After the Gospel, the reader says
This is the gospel of the Lord. Praise to You, Lord Christ.

our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, forgive us all that is past; and grant that from this time forward we may always serve and please You in newness of life, to the honor and glory of Your name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.
