CSC020, Computer Graphics, Assignment 3 1
2
Assignment 3 For this project you will need 4 pictures:
Picture with prominent foreground (like the rocks in dali.psd) Picture of non-prominent background (like the clouds, or some other pattern) Picture to add to background (like old main) Another picture to add to background (like head shot) Notes: One picture should have something you will remove Like the text in dali.psd For example: a sibling from a family photo, an object … Pictures 3 and 4 should be in juxtaposition with picture 1 and 2 to create an unexpected image 2

Features in this Assignment
Include an image with some original feature, such as text, that you must eliminate while keeping its area in the final image. Similar to the camera date / time stamp in dali.psd The unwanted feature must be something that you cannot simply crop out, because you need to maintain its area in the image. Make its disappearance seamless when zoomed out!!!! Cropping some unwanted material is good, too. 3
4
Features Create a composite PSD image from multiple image files in folder FirstLastComposite. First and Last are your name. Create a prominent Foreground Layer (picture #1) Hide the default Photoshop Background. In dali.psd the sky-less rock layer is the Foreground. Create a not-prominent Background Layer (picture #2) In dali.psd the clouds serve as background. Opacity is 100% in both layers. Part of the Foreground is Cut away (transparent). 4
5
Features in this Assignment
Include additional layers between Foreground and Background. These will contain edited version of images 3 and 4 (from slide 1) Use Layer Opacity and Fill, and Layer Masks to stack these layers into the composite image. Use Cropping and Size / Resolution on the original images before copying them into the composite. Place them to create an “artistic” effect 5
6
Composition Strive for composition that has visual Unity
Foreground / Background balance Interesting use of intermediate layers focus the viewer’s attention! Make it appear that the object you removed was never there to begin with! No visual artifacts!!! Do not just make a bunch of arbitrary edits! 6
7
README file Clearly describe the edits you performed
Be sure to include the tools you used Ex: I cropped out text with a magic wand selection Used the selection to copy nearby pixels From above and to the left Used the Clone Stamp tool to remove artifacts Used a soft brush to avoid hard edges
8
What to turn in A zip archive of folder FirstLastComposite
Make sure to include all original JPEG image files without modifications. Include your final image file in Photoshop format (.psd) with the main layers intact. Please merge layers from trivial edits. I will deduct points for layers that do not have a distinct visual identity. Make sure to write a thorough README file with your name in it. Identify your layers using file names. 8
