4
Positive Behavior Supports:
Strategies designed to prevent problems before they occur. Positive Behavior Supports are federally mandated. Each school system in the state is required to have a system of positive behavior supports implemented in every building. I personally feel really fortunate to have a program as good as Safe & Civil in our building.
5
Positive Behavior Supports Are NOT: -NEW -A Specific Curriculum.
-Limited to a particular group of students.
6
Positive Behavior Supports Focus on:
1. Providing supportive environments 2. Teaching new skills 3. Results in socially acceptable behavior. One of the concerns we’ve heard about this process is that some of our students will not be able to participate. And while its true that perhaps a student with a severe multiple impairment might not learn the guidelines for success, this program WILL effect how other students interact with students who have more involved impairments.
7
Beliefs All students must be treated with dignity & respect.
2. Students should be taught the skills & behaviors necessary for success. One of the concerns we’ve heard about this process is that some of our students will not be able to participate. Beliefs 3. Motivation & responsibility are encouraged through positive interactions and building relationships. 4. Student misbehavior represents a teaching opportunity.
