Respect yourself and others Arrive at school well rested and on time daily Arrive at school with appropriate materials and dress code Complete all assignments neatly Ask clarifying questions Independently seek additional learning support as needed

5 Rewards: Rewards Individual Rewards Whole Class Praise
Increased Responsibility Blue ticket for the Class Raffles School Panther Red Ticket “I am very bright!” ticket Note to parents Call to parents Rewards Whole Class Flex Plan Minutes increased (up to 50 minutes)

6 Consequences: Individual Consequences Whole Class Consequences
Repeated disruptions within a day: student will receive a “reminder’s needed” post it note on their desk. In excess of 3 reminders needed in a day student will receive a “think about it” slip to fill out. Repeated disruptions 2 days in a row: see above and a call home Repeated disruptions multiple days within a week student will miss 1 am recess If the above actions are not helping create a pattern of improved behavior: Call Parents and Meet to Make a Plan Whole Class Consequences Flex Plan Minutes reduced

7 Benefits of Homework: Nightly 20 minutes minimum -DUSD Standard
Better Retention and Understanding of Factual Knowledge Better Study Skills Better Time Organization Greater Self-discipline Learning as a Leisure Activity Read a minimum of 5 times a week!

8 Standard Homework Expectations
Reading-20 min Nightly Fluency/comprehension pages – should be worked on nightly Math-Nightly Workbook pages assigned at the beginning of the week and due at the end of the week Spelling Packets (SP#_) due Friday Challenge Spelling Opportunities Written Work 2nd Grade - Library Notebook 2 to 3x’s a month Science 1 to 2 x’s a month Interactive text, lesson quizzes, and end of unit exams Social Studies 1 to 2x’s a month Interactive text, lesson quizzes, projects and end of unit exams Projects (varied)

9 Student Work Responsibilities
Bring Red Panther Folder home with all cubby papers and assignments on Mondays (Tuesday if there is a Complete all Class Work and Homework-neatly Ask clarifying questions Return all Homework on Fridays (Thursday if Friday is not a school day) Try your best on every assignment

10 Parents, Please Support Homework
Establish regular homework time and location Establish a homework and notice drop spot Spot check work for neatness and accuracy Praise your child often and specifically for all of the things that they do well Please, limit T.V. Watching and video game playing & increase physical activity

11 Grade Reporting: Rubric Grade System “3” 85-100% “2” 70-84%
“3” % “2” % “1” Less than 70%, “4” Consistently Accomplishing Above Grade Level Goal-Every Student a “3”, in all areas Progress Reports 3 Times a Year October with conference, January, and April Report Cards- November, March, and June CST Testing: May 7th to May 10th (tentative 2012) Please plan vacations accordingly

12 Library Thursday 2:15 – 2:45pm
Students are responsible for material appropriateness, the Librarian and myself will be available to answer questions and to assist with appropriate choices upon request

13 Physical Education: Wednesday 8:30 – 9:15am
Students Should Dress Appropriately Let me know about medical needs so we can accommodate as needed Participation and Sportsmanship Game Day Wednesday 2:10 – 2:50pm Possible team work activities on occasional Friday afternoons

14 Visual and Performing Arts
Fine Arts Fridays 10:30 – 11:15am Varied in class assignments to increase creativity and understanding of setting Varied in class assignments to increase visual presentation skills and understanding of metacognitive visual imagery Graded on Respectful Participation and Skill

15 Field Trips September: Dublin Library (Walking)
October: Mt. Diablo (Drivers Needed) December – February: A Play (Drivers Needed) March: In & Out (Drivers Needed) May: Jelly Belly Factory (Drivers Needed) Maybe a trip to Wells for a performance (Walking)

17 Volunteer Opportunities:
Party Host/Hostess: Four a year with a healthy focus Filing Book Order sorter- At Home or at school Math consumable sorter - At Home or at school Centers: Tuesday and/or Thursday shifts available Computer Lab assistant (Day TBA) Social Studies Consumable sorter - At Home or at school Math Timed Tests Grading – Approximately 1x week at school “Homework check in” person – any time of day on Fridays Bulletin Boards and Photo Copies Field Trip Driver Coordinator Field Trip Drivers and Chaperones Fluency Support / Vocabulary Enrichment Student Memory Book Coordinator Guest Speakers – (Do you have an interesting talent or career?)
