5th Grade STAR STUDENTS Goodridge Elementary

2 About the Teachers Mrs. Bray, Mrs. Goetz, Ms. Weatherly, Ms. Bode– Math Mrs. Michels, Mrs. Wagner, Mrs. Johnson – Reading Each teacher will teach Social Studies, Language Arts, Science and Writing. Mrs. Baker, Ms, Knapik, and Mrs. Bellemore

3 Math We will be using a variety of resources including Go Math and an Interactive Notebook. The interactive notebook is a great resource to help with homework and to study for tests.

4 Social Studies We are using the History Alive! textbook.
OUR DAILY ROUTINE Read in History Alive! textbook and use other resources to find additional information. Students will experience history through hands-on activities. Take reading notes in the Interactive Student Notebook (ISN). We will work on various projects this year.

5 Reading Reading instruction will include novels that integrate the Social Studies content. Sign of the Beaver - Native Americans Pedro’s Journal – Explorers George Washington Socks – American Revolution

6 Writing We are tested in On-Demand Writing. Students will write a response to a passage based prompt and a stand-alone. Our instruction throughout the year will be integrated into all subject areas.

7 Science We will be using the next-generation Science standards.
Units include: Properties of Matter, Matter and Energy in Organisms and Ecosystems, Earths Surface Systems, and Space Systems. These topics will also be covered in Science Enrichment.

8 P.E., Music, Science Lab, Computer Lab, Art and Library
Unified Arts Students attend Unified Arts classes from 11:05-11:45. They have two specials on Thursday. Unified Arts include: P.E., Music, Science Lab, Computer Lab, Art and Library

9 Lunch Michels – 11:50-12:20 Bray– 11:50-12:20 Weatherly – 11:55-12:25
Johnson – 11:55-12:25 Wagner – 12:00-12:30 Goetz – 12:00-12:30

10 Classroom Management Each class is using the Economy System that rewards and fines the students based on behavior and responsibility. More information is provided in the Classroom Handbook.

11 S.O.A.R. Our school has implemented the Positive Behavior Intervention System that focuses on rewarding positive behavior within the classroom and school. This includes S.O.A.R. procedures that have been taught in each classroom and reviewed throughout the year.

13 Volunteer in our Classroom!
Volunteers If you would like to volunteer, please let us know! We always need help with copying. This can also be from home cutting out or putting together things. Volunteer in our Classroom!

14 Field Trips Conner Prairie – October 9th 8:00-6:00 $30
Nutcracker Ballet Cincinnati Art Museum Frankfort, Ky -$30 Background Checks – Make sure you have one on file. If you completed one last year, it is still valid. If you do not have one, they are $10.00

15 Infinite Campus Please pick up your Infinite Campus Parent Portal information from your student’s homeroom teacher. This has step-by-step directions for setting up your account. Please have your ID ready.

16 Yearbooks If your student ordered a yearbook last year, they are available for pick-up. Please see the homeroom teacher to sign that you received it.
