African American Response to Discrimination Ida B. Wells (p.480) Published a book denouncing mob violence. She lead a fearless crusade against lynching. Booker T. Washington (p.481) Proposed that African Americans concentrate on achieving economic goals rather than political ones. Gave a speech in Atlanta in 1895 where he proposed that AA postpone their fight for civil rights & instead concentrate on preparing themselves educationally and vocationally for full equality. W.E.B. Du Bois (p.481) Published a book called, “The Souls of Black Folk” that made a major impact on it’s readers. It criticized Booker T. Washington. Organized the Niagara Committee which later became the NAACP (National Organization for the Advancement of Colored People).
