3 Summer School 1: Architecture in a Changing Environment A challenging 2-week mix of lectures, seminars, field trips, and studio projects. There will be an emphasis on the global sustainable agenda, renewable energy, urban regeneration, learning by doing and practical problem solving with access to the Schools workshop, library and other University facilities. The Summer Schools thematic content will include: People, energy and the environment Sustainable architecture in a climate of change: design and practise. Visual notes of Lincoln. How to observe, interpret and communicate the built environment through visual documentation. Urban design and urban regeneration of historic city centres as a catalyst for change. Field trips and tours of historic and contemporary buildings in major UK cities. The Summer School will suit students and recent graduates interested in design, architecture, urban design, architectural heritage and the built environment. 4 Summer School 2: Historic Buildings & Conservation This Summer School will provide an opportunity to work with one of the UKs leading centres for conservation education and research, a centre that regularly work on some of Britains most iconic historic buildings. The summer school will provide an engaging mix of field trips, lectures, guest speakers and hands on projects with access to the Schools laboratories. The summer schools thematic content will include: Conservation of architectural materials and historic decoration. Field trips and tours of historic British buildings and interiors. Tours of traditional heritage workshops Conservation & restoration: an introduction to the care of historic collections. An introduction to gilding techniques This is an international summer school open to students and recent graduates interested in architecture, building conservation, architectural heritage, historic interiors & historic decoration. 6 Lincoln is one of the most historic cathedral cities in Europe. The University lies in the heart of the city and as such students have the benefit of easy access to the historic centre with its many amenities. There are cinemas, sports facilities, arts centres and restaurants and cafes to suit a variety of taste and budgets From top left: The Collection and Usher Gallery. 7 Summer School fees: The fee is £1,200 and needs to be paid in full before the summer school starts in July 2012. However, there is a special rate of £1,100 per student if paid in full before Friday 4 th May 2012. Fees include course materials, accommodation and field trips. When on campus breakfast and lunch vouchers will also be included from Monday to Friday. Fees do not include flights, transfers or visa costs. How to apply This can be done by visiting the www.lincoln.ac.uk/summerschools/architecture using credit card or bank transfer. www.lincoln.ac.uk/summerschools/architecture Please note that you must be 18 years of age at the start of the Summer School to be able to attend. 9 Summer School 2011 Summer School 1: Architecture in a Changing Environment Summer School 2: Historic Buildings & Conservation 8 th to 22 nd July 2012 The summer school 2011 included field trips to sustainable architectural projects, guest speakers, straw-bale house building, seminars, a trip to London and time to relax and enjoy the Lincoln on foot or bike. I like the course a lot, it has been a lot of fun and I did gain lots of experience from everyone here. They have been very helpful and it has been very different from what we take in Egypt.
