Jesse Williams Speech to BET
As a class: tor_and_activist_jesse_williams_gave_a_fiery_speech_a t_the_bet_awards.html On your own: Identify and record his overall purpose. Highlight and label in different colors: LOGOS PATHOS ETHOS THEN—pick one example and explain how you know he’s using that appeal. Then, explain how that appeal makes the speaker’s argument more convincing.
13
Explanation format Quotation from text Identification of appeal
How you know it’s that appeal How the appeal contributes to the overall message
14
Example Explanation: When Malala says, “66 million girls don’t have an education,” she uses logos because she is using a direct statistic. It makes her argument more convincing because the number is so large that it surprises the audience and makes them want to help.
