Argument with Kindness, Logic, and Respect Unit Title: Argument with Logic, Kindness, and Respect.

Focus Standards ELAGSE7RI6: Determine an author’s point of view or purpose in a text and analyze how the author distinguishes his or her position from that of others. ELAGSE7RI8: Trace and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, assessing whether the reasoning is sound and the evidence is relevant and sufficient to support the claims. ELAGSE7RI9: Analyze how two or more authors writing about the same topic shape their presentations of key information by emphasizing the different evidence or advancing different interpretations of facts. ELAGSE7RL1: Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. ELAGSE7W1: Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence. ELAGSE7W1a. Introduce claim(s), acknowledge alternate or opposing claims, and organize the reasons and evidence logically. ELAGSE7W1b. Support claim(s) with logical reasoning and relevant evidence, using accurate, credible sources and demonstrating an understanding of the topic or text.

ELAGSERI8 I can trace and evaluate arguments and specific claims in a text and assess reasoning. ELAGSEW1: I can compose and present arguments to support claims in an essay.

Instructional Activities
Tuesday 2/5/19 I-Ready Day Students are required to complete and pass 3 I-Ready Lessons per week. If it is not completed in class, students will be required to complete at home. I will give students until Sunday evening that week to complete this task. If a lesson is not passed, the student must take it again and pass two more to receive full credit for that week. This is also a formative assessment classwork grade. (60%)

Wednesday, 2/5/19 Students will complete graphic organizers from last week and review with teacher to make sure they accomplished this task.

Wednesday Continued After I have approved their Graphic Organizers and Close Reading from last week, students will then type their argumentative essay on Revision Assistant using the information from the organizer and highlighted text.

Thursday, 2/7/19 Students will complete Revision Assistant Essay When they turn in essay, they can work on I—Ready Lessons or any other work they owe me. *I will conference with students to make sure they are on track with their assignments and let them know what is late and needs to be turned in.

Friday, 2/8/19 Benchmark 3 Pre-Assessment *Students will complete this assessment on paper and during the next couple of weeks, we will spend the first ten minutes of class going over answers to this assessment. Students will be able to see their mistakes and correct them before the Post-Assessment at the end of the nine weeks.
