10/16/2017 Upcoming, Important Dates: Add these dates to your agenda, if they apply to you: THIS WEEK: Mon. - Fri. (10/16-10/20) – Conference Week - Early Release – 1:30 Book Fair Visit for OUR ELA CLASS – Tuesday NEXT WEEK: Fri. (10/27) – Renaissance (Honor Roll Celebration) - Second Biblionasium Review Due - Third Independent Reading Notes ½ Sheet due If you are not eating, you must read something of your choice. HOMEROOM = SILENCE

2 Language Arts – Warm Up 10/16/17
Third Period Only – Quarter 2 Benchmark Log in to your iRespond and submit your answers from your test. Write your name, date and class period on this test. When you finish, you MUST read independently. Place your test FACE DOWN and turn off your iRespond remote. If you did not bring your own book, use one of the ones in the black bin at your table. STAY IN YOUR SEATS.

New Essential Question Open your agenda to today’s date and locate the box marked “Language Arts”. Write the new E.Q., as listed below, in your agenda: How can I effectively brainstorm a personal incident about change to develop a personal narrative?

Essential Question: How can change be significant? What makes a good story? Standard: ELASE6L1.b – Use intensive pronouns (ex.: myself, ourselves). Learning Targets: Define the concept of change through the reading of a narrative. Apply understanding of narrative elements to reading and writing.

Writing Portfolios First, write your LAST NAME, FIRST NAME on the tab of your folder. Example: Squarepants, Spongebob Then, label the folder “Writing Portfolio”. Next, staple the rubric to the inside LEFT side of your folder. The tab with your name should be on the RIGHT. Finally, read through the exemplary boxes and highlight words and phrases that are different from the other categories. What would earn an exemplary grade, instead of just proficient or emerging or incomplete? What would make a narrative “exemplary”?

6 Language Arts – Work Session 10/16/17
Writing Narratives Talk amongst your tablemates and decide on what how a student would earn an exemplary score for each of the following categories: Ideas Structure Use of Language Hint: Look at the rubric. When you finish, you must show me your answers for approval. Then, you will be given sentence strips to write your answers for each category.

7 Language Arts – Closing Session 10/16/17
Independent Reading You should be on your THIRD book of this school year, at least. Your next Biblionasium book review will be due on Friday, October 27, 2017. (That’s next week!) Be sure that you have completed your book before Friday, October 27, 2017! Homework: Read! 
