1 What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Evaluation Question 3

2 Getting target audience feedback
Pre-screenings are one of the most common ways of getting audience feedback. This involves getting a selected audience, and asking them to watch the film and fill in a questionnaire. This means that if there is a majority of negative things said in the questionnaire about a particular moment in the film, they have time to change it, and improve that selected area. This is a very successful method of gaining audience feedback as it means when the finished film comes out, there shouldn't be moments in it that a large percentage of the audience feel negative about. Other successful methods of getting target audience feedback is through social media, film blogs and reviews. It is getting easier and easier to gain target audience due to the advancement in social media, and the ability to view previews and trailers of the movie before its release. Social media also means you can gain instant feedback on your film, through people writing comments which are easy to view.

3 Interim feedback Quack blog is one of the best places to gain feedback. This is because once we upload our work, teachers can view it and write comments about what needs to be improved and what can be added in order to make sure we are producing the highest quality of work. The comments are very useful in making sure all the areas needed are covered. We continually got feedback whilst editing our piece from our teachers, about what needed to be improved and didn’t quite work. One specific part of our trailer that was improved through feedback was a piece of editing involving Luna. During the voiceover Luna was spoken about, but not seen. We improved our trailer by editing luna into the horizon when she is mentioned in to voiceover, this builds a greater relationship between luna and the audience. Pitch: One of the first pieces of interim feedback we did for our trailer was our pitch. In this we told our initial ideas and general themes of our trailer to the class and our teacher. After we had finished the pitch we got feedback on our trailer, and what people think worked well, and what could be improved. One piece of feedback we received was to think about how our hero was unconventional, we later worked on this to make sure it was clear in the trailer

4 Feedback on our trailer
To gain feedback on our trailer we handed out a questionnaire to an audience. We knew it was important to gain quantitative and qualitative feedback. We also used open and closed questions in our questionnaire to make sure we had a variety of feedback to analyse, and so the results we got were not all the same. Open questions mean that the feedback we got was harder to analyse and put into the same category, but it also meant that we got a wider range of opinions and feelings on our trailer, which is something you would not get with closed questions. It gives the audience member a chance to elaborate on ‘why’ they felt that way about a certain part of the trailer. However, close questions are much easier to analyse and put together into a series of different categories, and also give you solid facts and statistics about the audience feedback. Closed questions can be very effective when it comes to audience feedback because it can help pinpoint the area of the trailer that needed the most improvement but also what was the most enjoyable to watch.

6 Feedback from questionnaire
Question 1: From question 1, we found out that most people did in fact believe it was a dystopian film. However we did get a wide range of answers. Question 2: From question 2, we found most people found are film average, however some also found it good and even some very goods. Question 3a: Most participants found are narrative intriguing, although there were also about less than half who said it was obvious. Question 3b: In general, most participants found the camerawork appropriate. Question 3c: It was clear in this question that most of our participants found our editing suitable. Question 3d: For our soundtrack, the participants the majority found it suitable, however there was a fair few who thought it was fully complimentary. Question 4: Most participants found that our film was the certificate 12. Question 5a: A majority of the participants thought that both males and females would enjoy our trailer. Question 5b: Most participants believed our trailer was suited for a mainstream audience. Question 5c: From question 5c we discovered most participants thought it would suit both an middle and upper class audience.

7 Qualitative feedback Question 6: This question confused some of our audience, so some of the answers were unclear. However we still received a mixed reaction on this question. The positives and negatives being relatively 50/50. Question 7: There was a lot of positive feedback on this question. One person said that they enjoyed the scenery in the trailer. Other quotes were “Editing and sound worked well.” and “The dramatic rooftop shots were good.” Question 8: Again the feedback on this question was very helpful as we received some feedback that could potentially improve our trailer. Some important feedback we received were things such as “Different scenery to expand ideas”, “Different variety of shots” and “Bit more narrative.” The final question of the questionnaire went back to a closed question based around whether they would watch the film. It was overall a very positive reaction with most of the questionnaires stating that they would watch the film if it was released.

8 What we learnt from the feedback
From our questionnaire we learnt a lot about our trailer and the way our target audience viewed it. One main thing we learnt from the feedback was that we needed more locations in our trailer, because a lot of people found it quite simple. Overall, I think our target audience did understand our intentions with our film, as most people thought the target audience was what it should be. Additionally, a lot of people saw that our film was mainstream which was a big element we were trying to get across in our trailer. The positive answers we received helped us with reinforcing our intentions for our trailer. For example when people enjoyed the soundtrack, it made us realise we had made a good decision and were in fact right to add that soundtrack to our piece even though we were unsure about it at first. Furthermore, a lot of people enjoyed the rooftop shots in our trailer which reinforced our intention to use high points looking over the city to show how rundown it was. As well as positive feedback there was also constructive criticism which was just as useful. The main reason it was useful was because it allowed us to improve on anything in the future. For example, some people did not think there was a variety of shots, so we knew it was something we needed to change if we did it again in the future. Additionally, it seemed some people were unclear about our genre, so for our poster and magazine we wanted to clearly show that our film was a dystopian sci fi film.
