2 College students are living increasingly busy lives and have little control over many of their stressors. One of the few things they can control is their eating habits, and many times they are uneducated or afraid to learn more. Our Story Taylor Story & Problem Statement

3 The Problem College students have many stressors
Poor health is a major cause of obesity Homework, classes, extra-curricular activities, jobs are all out of control Health and food is one of the few things college students can control David According to a 2017 report from the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior, during four years of college, the percentage of students obese or overweight grew from 23% to 41%, this a 78% increase. We see this as a major problem that leads into bad eating habits that then lead to an even higher adult obesity level than our current 40% or over 93.3 million adults considered obese in the United States (US Department of Health). Overweight and obese adults in the United States. Determined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one’s Body Mass Index (BMI) that is between 25 and 30 is considered overweight and a BMI 30 or higher is obese. Team Fit has narrowed the probable causes of overweightness and obesity to lack of knowledge on healthy food options and the convenience and price of obtaining these optimal food options. Some other issues that are helping increase the rate of obesity include the fast food industry, larger portion sizes, and the lack of physical exercise on a daily basis. The percentage of children being consumed by obesity grows rapidly from ages 13.9% of 2- to 5-year-olds to 20.6% of 12- to 19-year-olds. It is clear that a significant issue for overweight and obese children in the United States is the influence of their families and culture. Being overweight can cause serious health problems such as type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, as well as heightened risk of cardiovascular disease. Obesity is a leading cause of death however  typically preventable through a healthy diet and physical exercise. In the early history of obesity, it has been viewed to be hand and hand with wealth and prosperity. This was simply because there was a scarcity of food. Views have changed dramatically, however, since today obesity is considered an epidemic in the United States. In the late 1980’s early 1990’s there was a spike in the amount of sugar and fat intake by the individual. This spike was caused due to the low-cost foods to help lower the number of those suffering from malnutrition. From 1990 to 2004 there was an incredible jump from no state having more than a 15% obesity rate to more than 30% of adults in the American population being considered obese. It wasn’t until 2011, Colorado raised above 20% of the state to be considered obese. In 2017 the United States had 29 states above the 30% obesity rate. With this rather recent rapid increase in the rate of obesity, another term has been introduced—extreme obesity. With a BMI of 40+, extreme obesity has climbed to more than 6%. *CDC Centers for Disease Control & Prevention

4 STAKEHOLDERS* *Based on a survey of 100 DU students who shop for their groceries 60% of DU students believe their eating habits have stayed the same or worsened since coming to college 82/99 Taylor Interested in an app that creates a customizable grocery list based on food preferences and budget

5 Our idea Tyson We have decided to partner with the grocery store chain, Trader Joe’s. We will create an intrapreneurship with Trader Joe’s and will be able to access their private food label, providing the ability to come in at a lower price point than other grocery chains. We will create an app that works solely with Trader Joes where customers will have the ability to input information about who they are shopping for, how many meals they need, how much they are willing to spend, food allergies, and much more. Once all the information is input, the app will create a grocery list with healthy food options, that are in the certain, desired price range. The app will also give healthy recipes that can be made with the foods on the list and where the foods are located in the store, making shopping more convenient. In addition, the app will have educational aspects to help teach customers about certain foods, portion sizes, and other aspects to help improve their overall health.

6 App Prototype Eric We have an unbelievable opportunity to create a perfect partnership with Trader Joe’s and increase foot traffic in the stores while greatly increasing sales with our app. In addition, customers will be able to get the food they need at a cheaper price point with the incentives through our app. Another great incentive we believe we will create is allowing Trader Joe’s to get certain healthy foods (that appear in the grocery lists) at a cheaper cost from their food providers as they will be selling more of those products through our app. We believe that we are catering to the needs of the consumer, Trader Joe’s as a company, food providers of Trader Joe’s, and to ourselves all while reducing the obesity footprint among college students.

7 How it will work App Partnership with trader Joes
Targeting college students $$$ made from purchases through our app Controlled Trader Joe’s advertisements on the app David

10 Conclusion Obesity is a pressing issue in the US
Increasing Convenience and Low Prices Team Fit is focusing on the student population here at DU The student population welcomes the idea of an app Taylor Restate the problem statement Summarize big points
