Now we’ve recapped Chapter 1 and 2, it’s time to move on and find out about David and Tucky’s new life in Exeter, Devon. Read Chapter 3

Activity: Hot-seating. Very shortly, we are going to put some of you on the spot. You will need to become David and really feel how we might do if we were in his shoes. However, we first need to come up with a wide range of questions that we could ask him.

Activity: Use Bloom’s Questioning Matrix to help you.

Activity: Let’s Hot-Seat David. What does he feel about the situation so far?

SPaG Check: Could you use some Contrasting Connectives? However, despite, as opposed to… etc WALT: make inferences about what a character is thinking and feeling. Main Task: Choose 4 of the key events from last lesson (the booklet) and 2 new key events from Chapter 3 so far. In books: for each key event, explain how David is feeling. Why does he feel that way? What might have caused him to feel that way? Is there anything Morpurgo doesn’t tell us but we can imagine if we were David.

Plenary: Discuss how David and Tucky are feeling about going to a new school. Talk partners to predict what the new school could be like. Take feedback.
