“… Are we better than they
“… Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin; For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,…” Romans 3:9, 23 WHY DO WE SIN?
3
Ignorance causes many to love the world (Eph. 4:17-19).
Lusts of the flesh, lusts of the eyes, boastful pride of life (1 John 2:16). Ignorance always leads to sin. Jews crucified Jesus (Acts 3:17). Gentiles worshipped idols (Acts 17:23, 30). A true knowledge of God enlightens, restores and empowers (Hebrews 5:13-14).
4
Carelessness is a downfall of many (1 Cor. 10:12, 13).
All can misstep and stumble. Failure to be circumspect (Ephesians 5:15, 16). “Be on the alert…” (1 Corinthians 16:13). Careless in what we do or in what we do not do. Sins of the tongue (James 3:2, 10; 4:17) Stay awake spiritually (1 Thess. 5:5, 6; 1 Peter 5:8)!
5
Weaknesses of our flesh are a common source (Matt. 26:41).
Fears, emotions and passions can lead astray even the strong. Peter’s example (Luke 22:31-34) We all have areas of weakness. Immorality (Matthew 5:28)? Peer pressure (Galatians 2:11-13)? Know your weaknesses. Take measures to combat them (Romans 13:14).
6
Some choose rebellion against God (2 Pet. 2:9, 10).
Arrogance takes on an I-don’t-care attitude. Seared hearts persist taking an impenitent path in spite of the word of the Lord.
7
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23
