Creating a 3D Simulation
By: Melissa Greenlee Faculty Mentor: Dr. Ongard Sirisaengtaksin UHD CS REU 2011
2
3D Simulations in Practice
Gaming Training Medical Physics Chemical
3
Types of Simulations Stochastic – parameters are randomly generated
Discrete – based on events in time Continuous Dynamic – ever changing states where the first state determines the next
4
Programs used to create 3D Simulations
Selection depends on parameters as well as intended operating system Certain programs better for producing models whereas others better for including logical protocols Commonly used: SketchUp, Maya, 3D Studio Max, C++, C#, Java, Blender
5
3D Models in Google SketchUp
Easy to create geometric models Can import photo textures Pro version can export model to .fbx or .x files for use in other programs
7
Microsoft’s XNA Includes the .NET Framework Coding based in C#
Can be used in different platforms such as Windows, XBOX 360 and Zune Numerous ready-to-use namespaces and classes
