Make sure you have all of the following items: Anticipation Guide for “Maniac Magee” – 01/16 Song Analysis ½ Sheet – 01/16 Phil Collins “Another Day in Paradise” Lyrics – 01/16 Homeless Kids article – 01/16 Next, number the paragraphs of your article. The photo’s caption does NOT count. Then, read the article and answer the corresponding questions. Next to each question, identify the paragraph in which you found the answer.

The photo’s caption does NOT count. Then, read the article and answer the corresponding questions (located on the back of the “About the Author” page).. Next to each question, identify the paragraph in which you found the answer.

Essential Questions: How can talking and working with others help one analyze a novel? How do internal and external forces help people grow? Standard: ELASE6RI1 – Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. Learning Targets: Identify claims. Elect your position on these claims. Support your claim with logical reasoning and relevant evidence.

Novel Studies Now, determine what you think the theme of the story will be. Be prepared to present and discuss the following items to the class: How you know what the theme of your novel will be; What lead you to this conclusion; What you anticipate being in the book; and What you have learned from the materials you have. You may work with your tablemates and present as a group. Each group will have about 3-5 minutes to talk.

Novel Studies Answer the following prompts on your exit ticket: List: 3 things you learned while completing today’s activity 1 thing about the author (4th & 5th periods only) 1 thing about the setting 1 thing about the background knowledge you learned Homework: Finish any incomplete reading portfolio work! Be sure that you have completed your independent reading book before Friday, January 26, 2018!
