LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION

APPLICATION TYPE 1: University of California
Apply at: Admission.universityofcalifornia.edu 9 undergraduate campuses, one application. Must have a 3.0 or above Requirements: ACT or SAT A-G courses Essays (Personal Insight Questions) NO LETTERS OF REC 3

Application Type 2: California State University
Apply at: 23 Campuses across California, one application Must have a 2.0 or above Requirements: ACT or SAT A-G courses NO LETTERS OF REC NO ESSAY

Application Type 3: Private Colleges and Universities
Many private/out of state colleges use the Common Application: Require letters of recommendation Require essays Require official transcripts * If a school is NOT listed on CommonApp, their application will be on their college website.

Application Type 4: Community Colleges in CA
There are over 110 colleges to choose from Apply on No minimum GPA Test Scores are not required!

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
COMPLETE your Brag Sheet as soon as possible. DETERMINE how many letters you need and from whom. RESEARCH your college entrance requirement for each school. For example: LMU requires 1 LOR from a teacher, counselor, or principal ADD colleges to your Naviance list. SUBMIT packet to your Counselor in person. REQUEST teachers to submit Letters of Rec on Naviance

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
REQUEST official test scores to be sent to your college(s) or university(ies) directly from the College Board (SAT Reasoning and SAT Subject Tests) and/or the ACT. SUBMIT your application(s) to the college or university before the due date. FOLLOW UP with each college(s) or university(ies) and teachers after you apply. (especially if your college list changes) CHECK your and college portal often because colleges may contact you to ensure that all required documents have been submitted properly and/or to request additional information.

COUNSELOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Counselor is responsible for sending: Secondary School Report Official Transcript School Profile Mid-year Reports Additionally, some schools require a Written Evaluation from your Counselor. If requested, your Counselor will gladly write one for you! Its focus will be you as a whole person.

TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Teacher Recommendation is about your accomplishments in that particular course. Best to get an academic teacher (or follow college instructions) Teachers might ask for transcript or extra information. Be prepared. If you add colleges to your list, speak to your teacher in person and submit a request via Naviance

Requesting a Letter on Naviance:
STEP ONE: Link your CommonApp account to your Naviance account STEP TWO: You must request a Letter of Recommendation in person and electronically on Naviance STEP THREE: Log on to Naviance, and go to the “Letter of Recommendation” link to submit requests to teachers

Counselor Written Evaluation Packet
Today you will receive a packet Brag Sheet & Written responses inside: Important! Fill out the front form legibly & accurately Make sure your list of colleges on your envelope matches your list of colleges on Naviance Every student must return the packet to your counselor in person If you add colleges to your list after turning in your packet, speak to your counselor in person

If you have college application deadlines on or BEFORE Nov 1st your packet is due back to your counselor by the first deadline: First deadline: Monday 9/25 If you have college application deadlines AFTER Nov 1st or you are not applying to colleges your packet is due back to your counselor by the second deadline: Second deadline: Friday 10/27

Transcript DO NOT LOSE THIS TRANSCRIPT! Make copies, take a picture, it to yourself. Check transcript. If errors or grade changes pending, write on it and turn it in to your counselor. You will be given an accurate one once it is corrected. If you add/drop courses after transcript was printed, write on it and turn it in to your counselor. Updated transcript will be sent to colleges. 230 credits to graduate

Still Have Questions? Everything is on the website under: Senior To-Do’s => Letters of Recommendation. REMEMBER! Every senior needs to turn in a packet EVEN if you are going to a community college or taking a gap year. Reps from community college and 4 yr colleges will be visiting the CCC
