Rational Design and Synthesis of Structural Analog Complexes of the Active Site of Ni-Fe Hydrogenases Jianfeng Jiang, Department of Chemistry, Yeshiva University, New York, NY 10033 Synthesis of key intermediates: fac-[Fe(CN)2(CO)3X]1- (X = Br, I) are excellent intermediates for the preparation of structural analog complexes of the active sites of Ni-Fe hydrogenase. This intermediate has 4 replaceable CO/I ligands and cis-CN. Synthesis of thiolate bridging Ni-Fe dimer: [(dppe)Ni(-SEt)2Fe(CN)2(CO)2]6 and (dppe)Ni(-pdt)Fe(CN)2(CO)2 as Ni-Fe hydrogenase active sites structural analogs were synthesized by the reaction of fac-[Fe(CN)2(CO)3I]1-, thiolates and Ni(dppe)Cl2. Synthesis of thiolate bridging Fe-Ni-Fe trimer: [Ni[(-SEt)2Fe(CN)2(CO)2]2]2- were synthesized by the reaction of fac-[Fe(CN)2(CO)3I]1-, thiolates and Ni2+. Nickel is 4 coordinated in a square planar geometry.
